Projects Assistant

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NLFA) is a non-profit organization. Our motto is Farmers Helping Farmers.  NLFA is seeking one post secondary summer student to aid two programs that the NLFA hosts: Agriculture in the Classroom NL (AITC-NL) and NL Young Farmers’ Forum (NLYFF). The Project Assistant will assist with prepping AITC-NL initiatives for the next school year beginning in September, 2023 and assist with organization of NL Young Farmers’ Forum Membership.

 

This position will pay $14.50 hourly (for 35 hours per week) plus all mandatory employment related costs. The Project Assistant will be supervised directly by the Agriculture in the Classroom NL and NL Young Farmers’ Forum project leads with additional support from the NLFA Board of Directors. 
 

The Project Assistant will be provided an introduction/training to any applicable programs or technology being used by AITC-NL/NLYFF including photocopier, social media platforms, Office 365 programs, etc. These positions will provide the student with insight into how non-profit/charity organizations work, learn about the agriculture industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, learn about the variety of careers that are available in the agriculture and agri-food sector in NL, learn about the education system and curriculum resources and about membership programs for non-profits.
 

Duties:

  • Assisting in the distribution and delivery of supplies for AITC-NL Initiatives such as Little Green Thumbs, Little Green Sprouts, Open Farm Day, etc.

  • Organizing and packing of promotional items for AITC-NL events and activities.

  • Engaging with producers and industry members that provide support for AITC-NL initiatives.

  • Assist in brainstorming communications ideas for AITC-NL Social Media platforms.

  • Assist with general NLYFF administration duties, as well as collaborating with other office employees on the coordination and delivery of Open Farm Day.

  • Assist specifically with updating of the NLYFF membership google doc forms and excel membership lists.

  • Reach outs (phone/email) to current NLYFF membership and mailing list to ensure it is up to date and all information is correct.

  • Identify possible groups/organizations where NLYFF can collaborate and create awareness of the program.

  • Reach outs to pitch NLYFF membership to potential members.
