The Mental Health and Safety Coordinator supports and contributes to the efficient operation of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NLFA). The position reports to the General Manager who is based in Corner Brook. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Mental Health and Safety programs for Newfoundland and Labrador Farmers in collaboration with the NLFA team.

  • Establish a steering committee to manage the Farmers Mental Health and Safety Programs.

  • Engage with members to understand and support their mental health, wellness, and farm safety related needs.

  • Conduct reviews of mental health and safety programs and services in NL to support farmers.

  • Manage the development and delivery of resources (reading materials, support line etc.), training and workshops supporting mental health, wellness and safety for farmers, their families, and their employees.

  • Coordinate an awareness campaign through the development of promotional materials and content for various communication platforms including website, articles, blogs and social media.

  • Support farms in fostering a culture of mental health, wellbeing and safety for their employees as health and safety, recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Manage and build a network of specialists and consultants to support the advancement of farmer mental health programming.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with related organizations.

  • Support and coordinate member engagement, networking opportunities and events to support farmers in taking a break from the farm.

  • Manage and coordinate farm inquiries, serving as the first point of contact and mitigating issues.

  • Empower individuals and organizations to become leaders in promoting mental health and wellness and farm safety.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in behavioral sciences such as social work, counselling, psychology and/or equivalent experience.

  • Program development, implementation, and evaluation experience.

  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry is considered an asset.

  • Experience and skill in working with Boards of Directors, Steering Committees.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.

  • Strategic internal and external communication planning abilities.

  • Experience in crisis intervention is an asset.

  • Effective communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.

  • Effective problem-solving and leadership skills.

  • Familiarity with emerging technology and communication platforms (e.g. social media, etc.).

  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Strong proficiency with computers.

  • High level of diplomacy and strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

  • All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Compensation and other details


Job Type: Full-Time contractual


Salary: $65,000 - $70,000


Vacation: 2 weeks annual paid vacation plus paid public holidays, Christmas Holidays Dec 24 -Jan 2


Hours: 37.5 hours/week
