The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NLFA) is an organization which represents farmers and farmer groups in the province. Our motto is “Farmers Helping Farmers”, and we believe that by sharing information and speaking with a united voice, farmers can work more effectively for the betterment of the agriculture industry, and for the improvement of our Province as a whole.

The Federation of Agriculture is composed of an Executive and Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives of the various commodity boards, producer organizations, regional groups, and agricultural interest groups. Independent farmers, who are not represented by any of the member organizations, may also join.

Job description

Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator will serve as a link between the work on the Young Farmers Initiative and Agriculture in the Classroom NL (AITC-NL), focused primarily on careers. This position seeks to ‘bridge the gap’ between those programs, and connect all the relevant organizations to high school programming and post-secondary programs/training. Half of the position/time is to be spent working with one program, and the other half on the other program.

The position will be based out of the NLFA office in Mount Pearl and is a 37.5 hour/week position.


Assist with AITC-NL and NL Young Farmers’ initiatives. The top priority is junior/high school engagement, including an ongoing review NL Junior/High School curriculum. Connect with high school teachers to promote junior/high school initiatives and programs. Work with AITC-Canada to develop junior/high school resources and activities. Connect with guidance/career counselors and share resources from NL Young Farmers Forum (NLYFF) and AITC-NL where appropriate. Collaborate with relevant post-secondary (eg. CNA technician program). Work with other relevant groups to develop connections and promote agriculture programming (eg. 4-H clubs, Project SucSeed).


Actual Job Responsibilities

  • Identify teachers/courses that are applicable to our current resources.

  • Connect with high school teachers and distribute resources.

  • Initiate and host junior/high school Career presentations and career fair

  • Attend other career fairs (Grenfell, General high school fairs) – when health guidelines permit

  • Connect relevant post-secondary students with AITC-NL and NLYFF resources and make presentations where appropriate

  • Promote NLYFF mentorship pilot program and resources to students


Professional Qualifications Needed

• Degree or diploma in education or business, or equivalent experience. • Ability to work independently or collaboratively. • Ability to effectively communicate. • Ability to collaborate with staff. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Strong public speaking ability.       • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy. • Social media experience • Proficiency with digital assets such as Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Office • Experience with non-profit organizations would be an asset. • Experience with or knowledge of agriculture and/or education would be an asset.
