Robert Murphy
(Cattleman's Association of NL)
Robert Murphy of Brigus is a cattle farmer who has
been involved with agriculture since he was 19 years
old. Robert is married to his wife Mary, and they
have three grown children. He began farming with dairy
cows and hens, farming part time while attending Memorial
University where he finished his Business Degree in
1969. Eventually Robert started producing eggs with
a 25,000 layer operation, and a few beef cattle. He
retired from his egg operation in 2001, but he still
has a herd of between 40 and 120 head of cattle at
several locations.
Robert has served on the NLFA Board of Directors for
about 10 years. During that time he has also served
as President of the Cattleman’s Association
of Newfoundland and Labrador. He has also been involved
in other agricultural organizations over the years,
including the Canadian Egg Agency where he served
for 7 years with a period as Chair, and he was involved
with the Newfoundland and Labrador Egg Marketing Board
for 20 years. He was also President of the Provincial
Poultry Co-op for 15 years.
