Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador

Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (CFNL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the interest of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chicken industry. The Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador is mandated to operate with the power and authority provided by the Newfoundland and Labrador Chicken Marketing Scheme which came into effect April 1, 1981.

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to the largest chicken farm in Canada and we grow more than 18 million kilograms of chicken meat annually.

Safe, Safer, Safest! That is the name of the On Farm Food Safety Assurance Program (OFFSAP) that all Canadian chicken farmers follow. This program ensures that top-notch safety procedures and standardized safety systems will be found on each Canadian chicken farm. This will ensure that Canadian chicken farmers continue to produce safe and high quality product, as they have been doing for generations.

Chickens raised for meat are not kept in cages and do not lay eggs.

Chickens are not given hormones. In fact, hormones are not even available in Canada and their use is illegal.

The chickens are kept in climate controlled barns to protect them against hot summers, cold winters, predators and disease.
